UCEM launches Student & Alumni Sustainability Committee
Posted on: 7 August, 2024
On 9 July 2024, UCEM’s new Student & Alumni Sustainability Committee (SASC) had its first meeting.
SASC was formed from student feedback, as well as input from UCEM’s Responsible Futures Working Group, and is part of UCEM’s Alumni Lifelong Influencing Plan (ALIP).
The aim of this committee is for it to become a student and alumni-led committee on sustainability at UCEM, and engage in the following activities:
- Sharing sustainable best practices and developments from the built environment with alumni and students
- Attending a quarterly (four times a year) virtual roundtable
- Hearing from UCEM staff and experts from the sector
- Giving feedback on UCEM activities and events
- Sharing ideas and recommendations for future sustainability work at UCEM
- Student and alumni committee leadership
For the first meeting, Vice Chancellor Ashley Wheaton provided an overall introduction to sustainability at UCEM, while Jessica Gordon-Calvert and Ekta Mirchandani-Khemlani introduced SASC.
After the introductions, students and alumni were asked what they’d like to learn about UCEM’s sustainability, what change they’d like to see in the built environment and one thing they’d like to work on at UCEM, in terms of sustainability.
As Jessica Gordon-Calvert, Sustainability Engagement & Education Officer at UCEM, commented:
“We’re excited to launch our new Student & Alumni Sustainability Committee as part of the activities set out in our Alumni Lifelong Influencing Plan. It is a huge privilege to be able to work with our students and alumni and I look forward to seeing how the group will lead and shape sustainability on behalf of the learner voice.”
