UCEM to host upcoming hybrid workshop on gender equality in Jordan and Egypt
Posted on: 29 August, 2023
This workshop is part of three ongoing projects aimed at tackling gender inequality.
UCEM is proud to be hosting an upcoming hybrid workshop that will be taking place on Wednesday 6 September, both at our Horizons office in Reading and online.
Earlier this year, UCEM was awarded three externally funded research grants from the British Council. This funding will help support three projects led by Dr Muhammad Rana, Professor Angela Lee and Dr Wendy Finlay that will all support gender equality. For this workshop, the focus will be on exploring gender equality in Jordan and Egypt.
As Dr Muhammad Rana commented:
“Barriers for gender equality bring forth discrimination, including differential gender practices and actions. This includes, and is not limited to, social and economic abuse, whereby women have differing access to resources, thus creating limitation over choices.
“We firmly advocate that a diverse workforce is more productive and imaginative, and that embracing diversity will allow the flow of new ways of thinking and approaches to addressing sustainability challenges and to accelerate economic growth.”
Among the confirmed participants for this workshop are researchers from Universiti Utara Malaysia, Birmingham City University, University of West London, University of Salford – and of course our project partners from Philidelphia University, Hashemite University, and the British University of Egypt. Several researchers, tutors and staff from UCEM will also be in attendance. We are also running follow-up workshops in Jordan in October and Cairo, Egypt in November.
We would welcome your participation at this event. Please contact Sharon Youngson-Baines at s.youngson@ucem.ac.uk if you are interested in attending or feel free to share this invitation with your network.
