UCEM to host built environment leadership event championing inclusivity
Posted on: 24 January, 2024
UCEM is excited to host “Joined up leadership for an inclusive built environment” set for Wednesday 31 January.
Running as part of UCEM’s ‘INSPIRE’ series, this event underscores our commitment to INfluence for Skills, Productivity, Industry, Research and Education. It embodies UCEM’s dedication to reducing fragmentation and duplication in the sector, thereby enhancing the impact of existing diversity initiatives.
The day-long event will feature a series of insightful sessions led by distinguished speakers, including Misa von Tunzelman (Lead UCEM Trustee for EDI), Amanda Clack (Chair of UCEM’s Board of Trustees) and Dr Bola Abisogun OBE, who was recently conferred with an Honorary MBA from UCEM.
A key focus of the event will be strategic approaches to EDI in construction and the built environment, highlighting the importance of cohesive sector-wide initiatives, with event contributors including the Construction Leadership Council, Construction Inclusion Coalition, Construction Industry Council, Chartered Institute of Building and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
UCEM’s Vice Chancellor Ashley Wheaton commented:
“This event represents a significant step in our continuous endeavour to lead and inspire change within the built environment. By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, we aim to foster a unified approach towards EDI. It’s an opportunity for existing EDI initiatives to align their efforts and to speak with a single voice so that we can create a fairer, more respectful sector for all”.
Representatives from an array of organisations have signed up to attend. These include Bidwells, Builders Merchants Federation, Building Heroes, CIAT, Chartered Surveyors Company, Costain, Greater London Authority, Heathrow, Lendlease, NHBC, Persimmon Homes, Redrow, RIBA, RTPI, Savills, Skanska UK, Sir Robert McAlpine, University of Reading and Women in Property, amongst many others.
Participants can look forward to a day filled with enriching discussions, practical insights and valuable networking opportunities, all centred around the vision of a more equitable built environment.
