UCEM becomes approved IEMA University Partner

Posted on: 15 July, 2024

UCEM is pleased to announce that it has become an approved university partner of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).

IEMA is a professional body for people working in the environment and sustainability. It has over 22,000 members, and is the largest professional body for environmental practitioners, both in the United Kingdom and worldwide.

This partnership means UCEM’s MSc Innovation in Sustainable Built Environments and Level 7 Sustainability Business Specialist Apprenticeship are now both accredited by IEMA, having been aligned to the IEMA Graduate Standard. As a result, students on these programmes are entitled to free IEMA student membership for the duration of their studies and, on successful completion, qualify for GradIEMA.

In their feedback, the IEMA assessor felt that the teaching materials were presented in an engaging way and that students were provided with good module information, guidance notes, and access to a variety of teaching and learning resources.

As IEMA Deputy CEO Martin Baxter commented:

“The next generation is going to be crucial to embedding first class sustainability practice within businesses and organisations across the global economy.

“Whether you’re a young person starting out on your journey or a mature student switching careers or upskilling, we’re pleased to approve UCEM with IEMA accreditation, and hope we can have a long relationship with both the university and their students as they grow their careers in sustainability.”

Graeme Larsen, Associate Dean of Sustainability at UCEM, commented:

“It’s a great pleasure to be awarded accreditation from IEMA regarding the work being done here at UCEM and, in particular, of our MSc Innovation in Sustainable Built Environments programme and our L7 Sustainability Business Specialist Apprenticeship programme.

“The accreditation of these key programmes demonstrates not only their strength but also their legitimacy in the ever-changing discourse that is sustainability. We look forward to working with IEMA closely in the coming years.”
