In November of 2024, UCEM was awarded £53,200 by the British Council under the International Science Partnerships Fund for an EcoBrazil workshop.

This hybrid workshop, titled: ‘Adapting Ecosystems: Bridging Biodiversity and Climate Resilience in Brazilian Landscapes through capacity building, knowledge exchange and simulation modelling; EcoBrazil’, aims to gather 20 UK and 20 Brazilian participants from a diverse range of areas.

Together, participants will discuss and propose tentative solutions to a range of challenges in the Amazon, including urbanisation and threats to biodiversity.

Ultimately, the goal is to develop a research roadmap to simulate sustainable bio-economies, which will be achieved through a range of objectives, including:

  1. Fostering the research capacity of Early Career Researchers, experts from the industry, and urban policy and planning makers in Brazil
  2. Exploring digital solutions for socially disadvantaged communities to access basic needs and simulate scenarios for economic development
  3. Building and strengthening links for future collaboration between Brazil and the UK
  4. Developing links between industry, academia, government and NGOs
  5. Enhancing national capacity and expertise in participatory action research, sector studies and policy design.
