Posted on: 24 June, 2024
Following the recent retirements of Professor Kenny Miller and Alastair Martin CVO, and two other anticipated retirements later this year, UCEM has appointed a number of new Independent Trustees to its Board. We are delighted to announced that Peter McCrea OBE FRICS and Nick Hughes have been appointed for initial three-year terms of office.
Peter McCrea OBE FRICS
Peter is a Chartered Surveyor and a full time Surveyor Member of the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) with over 20 years’ experience in regulation, standards and governance. Amongst his extensive experience, he was a Trustee of LionHeart, the surveyor’s benevolent charity, for seven years, and Chair of its Board for six years until summer 2024. Peter was made an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours in June 2024 for services to the profession of chartered surveyors. His connections with UCEM began some 20 years ago when he studied for a Diploma in Arbitration and he was made an Honorary Fellow of UCEM in 2020.
Speaking of his appointment, Peter commented: “I am delighted to join the Board of UCEM, returning home to where my dispute resolution career began. I am looking forward to contributing to the ongoing development of the UK’s leading University specialising in the built environment.”
Nick Hughes
Nick is a Brand and Marcoms specialist who spent the early part of his career at creative agencies, including co-founding and running Siren, a creative agency, for 11 years. Moving client-side, Nick was Global Head of Marketing and Communications at Knight Frank before moving to SEGRO where he was Director of Marketing and Communications for 10 years. He now consults as a Fractional CMO. He has an MBA from Bayes Business School, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Patron of Real Estate Balance.
Commenting on his appointment as Independent Trustee, Nick said: “I am thrilled to be joining the Board of Trustees of UCEM at such an exciting time in its history. To have the chance to give back to the built environment world is an opportunity that I am very grateful to have.”
UCEM’s Chair of the Board of Trustees, Amanda Clack, said: “I am absolutely delighted we are making these new appointments to the UCEM Board of Trustees. Peter and Nick are incredibly well-respected within the built environment sector and will bring valuable insights to UCEM as we realise our ambition to become the centre of excellence for built environment education.”
The Board has also appointed a new Staff Trustee, Charlotte Thackeray, UCEM’s Outreach and Inclusion Lead. Announcements on further new appointees, who will join the Board through the late summer and the autumn 2024, will follow later in the year.
