UCEM demonstrates excellent progress in 2024 National Student Survey results

Posted on: 12 July, 2024

This week, the Office for Students (OfS) published the results of the National Student Survey (NSS) for 2024.

The NSS is conducted every year to collate the opinions of students on the quality of the courses they study and their educational experience. These results help inform potential students on where they should consider studying, while providing accountability and giving universities and colleges the data they need to optimise and improve their services and offerings.

This year, 190 UCEM students completed the survey. Following last year’s results, where UCEM exceeded several sector benchmarks, 2024’s results once again show cause for celebration.

In the themes of assessment and feedback, organisation and management, student voice, mental wellbeing services, UCEM exceeded the overall 2024 percentage score of the sector. Mental wellbeing services is of particular note, with UCEM’s score of 91% far exceeding both the sector benchmark (78.9%) and overall sector score (78.6%).

Student voice (75.8%) is another area where UCEM continues to excel, with the benchmark for 2024 sitting at 70.1% and the overall sector score being 74%.

In the themes of learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, organisation and management, learning resources and student voice, UCEM also observed an increase in positivity scores from 2023’s results, demonstrating the improvements that have been made in the last year. What’s more, no theme displayed a significant drop in satisfaction in comparison to 2023’s findings across UCEM’s results.

UCEM have also been listed on The Times Higher Education rankings of top higher education services for the first time since it began participating in the NSS in 2017.

Published by The Times Higher Education (THE) publication every year, this list is based on analysis of the NSS results. UCEM ranked 58 out of 149, with an impressive 81.9% positivity score across all themes.

As Lynne Downey, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Student and Registry Services) commented:

“UCEM are proud of these results and feel they reflect our continuing commitment to providing an excellent experience for all of our students throughout their academic journey. We value all of the feedback and input from the students who participated and intend to use this to inform and improve all aspects of our provision.”
