UCEM is delighted to announce that Dr Liz Marr has been appointed to its Board as an Independent Trustee for an initial 3-year term of office from 1 March 2025.

Dr Liz Marr was Pro-Vice-Chancellor: Students at The Open University until April 2023. She has around thirty years of experience in teaching and learning in UK higher education with particular interest in social justice and social mobility. She is passionate about opening opportunity for all who wish to participate in learning, both formally and informally, personally mentoring many people on their leadership journeys. She was a member of the Milton Keynes College board for over ten years, serving as Vice Chair for most of those.

She was also, for 8 years, a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities, serving two terms as Vice President and one term as President. She received the 2023 Milton Keynes Women Leaders award for Skills Education and Training and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Universities Association for Lifelong Learning. She is currently a Fellow at the Centre for Online and Distance Education at the University of London.

Speaking of her appointment, Liz commented: “I am really pleased and excited to be joining the UCEM board of trustees and am hopeful that my experience in distance education and in higher education generally will be of value to the University. UCEM’s commitment to values of equality, diversity and inclusion are very much in line with my own and I look forward to contributing to further development of these, as well as the student experience.”

UCEM’s Chair of the Board of Trustees, Peter McCrea OBE, said: “I am absolutely delighted we are appointing Liz to the UCEM Board of Trustees. She brings a wealth of knowledge gained over an exceptional career in higher education and is incredibly well-regarded within her field. I very much look forward to her insight and perspectives as we continue the evolution of UCEM into the centre of excellence for built environment education in the coming years.”
