We’re with you every step of the way

BUILT FOR SUPPORT

While studying with UCEM, you’ll be fully supported on your programme by our friendly and informative academic and support teams, who will be there to guide you from the moment you enrol until the day you graduate. They’ll assist you with your online learning experience, provide you with academic support, and be there for you if you have any disability or well-being support needs.

The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

The VLE is the place where vital information for your studies can be found. Think of this as a portal or a hub at the centre of your learning which you will visit frequently.

If you wish to know more about the VLE, the video ‘Getting started on the VLE‘ can help you.

Within the VLE, you will find:

Student Hub

The Student Hub is where you can interact with your student community, find all academic support and resources, and seek information to help with your future prospects.

Study Skills

This is where you can find generic academic support essential to completing your programme, such as assistance with referencing and mathematics.

Student Central

Student Central is the home of the Student Advice team.

Our Student Advice Team

There is no such thing as a silly question and assistance is never too far away with our student advice team. This team is your first point of contact if you are unsure of where to get help and they are always happy to guide you.

The team can help you with queries from as mundane as the administrative to as significant as academic and pastoral. The best way to contact this team is via Student Central – simply ask the question you have and they will answer the enquiry themselves, or assign it to the team best suited in answering.

Student Central can be used for any questions such as:

  • Registration
  • Administration
  • Finance
  • Assessments and coursework
  • Mental health
  • IT
  • Disabilities
  • Contacting tutors and module leaders
  • Graduation

If you need to speak to someone immediately,  you can call us on +44 (0)118 921 4696 option 2. We are happy to chat to you from 8.30am – 5.00pm GMT, Monday to Friday.

Additional support

LionHeart is an independent charity run by RICS professionals. Through a volunteer network, this benevolent fund offers confidential advice, information and other support to past and present members of the organisation who, for whatever reason, find themselves in difficulty. The aim of LionHeart is simple: to be there for RICS professionals whenever life throws them a curve ball, from APC candidates right through to retirement.

The services it provides range from financial support, health and wellbeing packages, free professional counselling, work-related support and legal advice, and help if you or one of your loved ones become seriously ill.

Any final year students on accredited programmes may also use LionHeart’s coaching service, legal advice helpline and online webinars. A number of their services will also be opened up to young people aged over 18 who are on apprenticeships leading to an RICS accredited qualification. These include LionHeart counselling, coaching, access to legal advice helpline and our wide range of personal development and wellbeing webinars.

Our Academic Team

Our academic staff are experts in their fields and are here to make your studies with UCEM both stimulating and inspiring, whilst offering vital support and guidance.

Our programme leaders

Programme leaders are the best people to go to if you have questions regarding your programme. These questions may include:

  • Module options
  • Advice about your project
  • Programme structure
  • RICS and APC queries

It is also best to get in contact with programme leaders if you have any concerns, or if you need to escalate an issue. To get hold of a programme leader, access the VLE and go onto the ‘programme page’ section.

Our module leaders

Module leaders can assist you with any subject specific questions you have on a module, including questions about module content, module delivery and assessment preparation.

If you need any support with your module you can contact your module leader via the general or weekly discussion forums located on the VLE.

Our module tutors

Your module leader is assisted by a team of module tutors who provide additional support via the weekly discussion forums and through webinars.

Our academic support tutors

This is the team to contact if you require learning assistance which is non-subject specific. We realise that navigating your studies is no easy task, and so we are here to help. Your academic support tutor email address can be found on the module page of the VLE. Examples of just some of the things the academic support tutors can provide help with are:

  • Navigating the VLE, the e-library, or locating information
  • Guidance on how to use forums and get involved with webinars
  • Information on assessment deadlines and guidance on submission
  • Support managing your workload
  • Help with referencing
  • Understanding your assessment feedback
